In dense and crowded modern cities in Israel – as in New York, London or Toronto - public transportation is a necessity. It is also an egalitarian sort of transportation, where you will find a cross section of humanity, from laborers and businesspeople to students on their way to school or parents taking their toddlers to doctor’s appointments. These factors make them perfect targets for genocidal terrorists bent on indiscriminately killing as many victims as possible.
Buses and bus stops in Israel have been favored targets for Palestinian terrorists since very early days. Here is a list of terror attacks involving buses and bus stations going back only from 2001 to 2008, courtesy of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- July 2, 2008 - Three people were killed and over 50 wounded in a terror attack in Jerusalem. Driving a bulldozer on Jaffa Road between the Central Bus Station and the Mahane Yehuda market, the terrorist plowed into cars and pedestrians as well as two public buses carrying some 50 passengers. Police shot and killed the terrorist.
