Taliban Responsible for Vast Majority of Civilian Deaths in Afghanistan
Thanks to Afghanistan's ongoing insurgency, 3,021 civilians were killed in 2011 and most of them were caused by the bad guys. The United Nations suggests that about 80 percent of the deaths were attributable to the actions of insurgents, while about 14 percent were caused by NATO (in some cases, blame could not be determined).
The statistics are very misleading, actually. If the insurgents would give up their insane quest for an Afghan Caliphate that enslaves women, persecutes all other minorities and reduces all education to what one learns in a mosque, then there would be no casualties.
If we're going to be honest, 100 percent of civilian casualties can be blamed on the Taliban and related insurgent groups. Insurgents target civilians. In contrast, NATO does everything possible, to the point of endangering their own troops, to avoid civilian casualties in a conflict where the enemy habitually violates every rule of war. Sorry, United Nations. Your report stinks.
