On The Twelve Evils Of Christmas

12 evils of christmas british muslim islam4uk christian pagan hate speech abu ramaysahAs Britons finished up their Christmas shopping this year, many of them had the experience of having their holiday darkened by what is nothing more or less than a hate speech campaign being waged by Muslim religious extremists.

Organized by Abu Ramaysah, a member of Islam4UK, the “12 Evils of Christmas” campaign has plastered British streets with posters declaring Christmas to be responsible for STDs, rape, teenage pregnancies, pedophilia, abortion, homelessness and violence.

Also, paganism. Christmas to blame for paganism! This is clearly a very sharp bunch of people.

This is actually a pretty good time to page Yusuf Islam, also known as Cat Stevens. Yusuf’s endorsement of the fatwah issued against Salman Rushdie for The Satanic Verses seems to remain enduringly in the minds of so many in the western world; as does his justification for that support.

In  the midst of the backlash against his stated support for the fatwah, Yusuf declared that it was considered a crime in Islam to defame any prophet.

“Any writer who abuses the Prophet or indeed any prophet, under Islamic law the sentence for that is actually death,” Yusuf insisted.

As anyone familiar with Islam knows, Islam recognizes figures from various religions as legitimate prophets of God. They believe that Mohammad’s prophecy is the most recent, most complete, and will be the final prophecy.

One of the prophets recognized by Islam is none other than Jesus Christ.

So if one accepts Yusuf Islam’s interpretation of Koranic law, Muslims around the world should be calling for the death of Abu Ramaysah.

After all, not only has Ramaysah defamed a prophet, but he has actually defamed a prophet for things that he has nothing at all to do with. Blaming the holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus for STDs and abortion is like blaming Pee Wee Herman for famine, war, pestilence and death. It’s a bizarre logical leap, one that could only exist in the mind of an individual who skirts the teachings of his own religion for the express purpose of offending someone.

If he had pulled a stunt like this in Canada, one would be tempted to muse about the likelihood of Ramsayah being hauled before a Human Rights Commission. One would be tempted, if it weren’t for the detail that the HRCs have soften been used by individuals sharing Ryamsayah’s pro-Shariah as a cudgel against those who offend them, regardless of intent.

While an actually quite-refreshing column on the subject of Christmas can be found on Mohammad Elmasry’s Canadian Charger website – the confines of which normally drip with political and religious extremism – one can safely assume that he wouldn’t be rushing to file a human rights complaint against Ramaysah if he waged his campaign in Canada. Likewise, one can feel pretty comfortable that folks like Yusuf Islam won’t be backing any fatwahs against him.

(Then again, Yusuf Islam might not back a fatwah against anyone. He insists his support for Ayatollah Komeini’s fatwah against Salman Rushdie was given during a period of religious naivete immediately following his conversion to Islam.)

When it’s the feelings of non-Muslims that are being trampled, and prophets that non-Muslims revere that are being defamed, the pro-Shariah crowd and their useful idiots seem to have so very little to say about it. Yet when a Danish jackass doodles the Prophet Mohammad all bets are off, up to and including terrorist bombings in Sweden.

Anyone who tramples their own religious principles for the purpose of spewing hatred is my enemy. And allow me to put the cohorts of people like Abu Ramaysah, those who are now so conspicuously quiet, on notice: we’re paying very close attention to you.

But Merry Christmas all the same.
