What About The Rest?

The Cuban regime is going to release 52 political prisoners. That's good news. In fact, Amnesty International suggests that after this release, there will only be one political prisoner left in the jails.

Except that Human Rights Watch and other groups suggest the figure is more likely above 100 such prisoners left rotting in Cuban jails (possibly in the hundreds or even thousands). How can Amnesty's number be so different?

Acknowledging that its figure is on the low side, Amnesty International defines prisoners of conscience as those inmates jailed for their beliefs who have been found not to have used or advocated violence.

Really? So, why exactly did Amnesty International get all cozy with Mozzam Begg and his fellow jihadists? By Amnesty's own definitions, the Guantanamo Bay detainees ought not to have even shown up on their radar.

Do your job, Amnesty International. Stand by your own principles. That's all we ask.
